Got a chance to read all the other posts first. My two cents on this topic is that deep throat is not that necessary. Hitting the places where the nerve endings reside has the greatest affect.

For deep throating: The sub who swallowed swords has the right idea. Practice practice practice. I would recommend starting with a banana. It has the right shape and is also stiff. Should it go into places where is should not be (causes a gag response), it will not be so stiff and hard that it will cause damage.
