Okay, yesterday I had to change my password for the site, no problem. But since then I find myself having to log in each time I come back, even though I have checked the "Remember Me" box at the log-in.
I do have cookies allowed for this site and haven't had this problem prior to yesterday. Anyone else finding this? Anyone know what I can do about it?
Thanks!

Have you cleared your cookies? That should fix the problem. What is happening, I believe, is the site is reading the old cookies not the updated one with the new password so it is not keeping you logged in.

Hate to contradict Torq, but the password issue is and continues to plague! As of just this last five minutes ago.
Why is it then, that all other sites seem to retain passwords, using I.E. or Firefox or whatever, yet this site continues ad naseum with pointed prompts scolding one for "forgetting" their passwords?
At least today, the automated message response did work as if to prove there must be a Silver Lining to even getting passwords straight here.

I'm having the same problem. I cleared my cookies, ran a disc cleanup and deleted my temporary files, restarted the computer and then came back to the site. When I logged back in, I checked the remember me box. A couple of hours later, when I tried to get today's posts, it made me log in again.
Other suggestions would be appreciateed.
are you going to the academy? if you do, that logs you out of the library.
Same problem here, and I'm not going to the Academy either. Cleared cookies etc!
Yeah, the forums has some bizarre features... one of which is the log in issue. Sometimes, I hit the remember me button and it keeps me logged in for 2-3 weeks with no problem, I clear cookies, and I have to relog in (how it's suppose to work!)
Other times I go through stretches where I have to re-log in every single time I come into forums...
Some common problems:
1. You cleared cookies since you last came into forums. Some puters clear them automatically when you close your browser. Check the settings.
2. You can log in, but a "you have a PM" window pops up, you click into that... sometimes that messes with your "remember me" cycle the next time you log in.
3. Did you accidently forget to click the remember me button the last time you were in?
If none of these work, come find me and I can teach you the "Log in Dance"....![]()
Okay. Several hours ago I cleared my cookies, shut down Firefox, then restarted and logged back in to the Forums. When I came back now I was logged in already, "remembered" from earlier. So, at least in my case, clearing the cookies seemed to have fixed it.
To the best of my knowledge, this was the first time this has happened since the last time I had to change my password. It makes sense to me that the cookie was not properly updated when I did so, and was therefore keeping the site from remembering me.
The only suggestion I can make to those who still have the problems is to check how your browser is handling cookies. I know that, with Firefox or Netscape you can set your browser to accept "Session Cookies" which I think are supposed to be deleted when you close your browser. It's a little more complicated in Internet Explorer (duh!), but I think something similar happens. For sites like this, where you want to remain logged in all the time, you have to accept cookies completely, not just for the session.

Glad to hear it worked Thorn!

It is completely an Windows IE issue. I've switched over to my Mac (using either Safari or Netscape as my browser) and things there are fine. However, when I come back to my pc, it won't remember my login for more than 15 minutes.
I've done everything short of reinstalling--cleared cookies, empty temp. internet files, rebooted, logged on, clicked remember me and it still won't remember me. Suggestions?

Hate to say this ER... but my only other suggestion would be reinstalling, especially if you have tried everything else. Either that or check and see if there is a program update for IE that may be the issue.
Sorry not sure what else to advise... I use FF because I have never gotten IE to work right for me!

Unfortunately, it is a work pc and I don't have the authority to reinstall. I will run a software update, tho. I guess I'll just have to play here only on my laptop b/c the never ending logging on is driving me crazy.
Mac's rule, pc's drool!
I'm having the same damn problem, and I've never had problems before. *pout* I've always used IE. I haven't changed any of my settings. The only thing that has changed is the fucking password!!!! GRRRRR

Yeah, ok, I don't know why it's doing this either. And it's not operating system dependent, though Vista does seem to have more issues with it than XP does. I log in and can stay remembered for forever on either of my laptops (Vista & XP), but no matter how T logs in, it never remember him. (really that's assinine of it if you think about it... not remembering your boss? ouch...) T hasn't had to change his password the 40x I have had to, so it really isn't a password issue... T's also doesn't refresh the Library pages correctly, but that's a Vista issue.
In any case, clearing the Library cookies is different than clearing the browser cookies. If you clear one and not the other, your computer sometimes does creepy stuff and keeps you logged in on some sites and not on others. Also, when IE updates itself, it sometimes installs patches for cookie issues, so although you may still be using same browser & settings, it isn't the same monster.
Keep fiddling around with the stuff... at some point there might be something that works.
Something else you might try: use a different browser. The three I use are Netscape, IE and Firefox. If one gives you problems try another.
I have a download problem with certain sites when I use IE, but when I use Firefox there's no problem. With other sites it's the opposite! Go figure.
I know there are other browsers out there, but I'm not familiar with them or their reliability or ease of use.

I am okay now.I guess that the login gremlins have grown tired of me and moved on.

You passing your gremlins around, blizz? Is that nice??? *shoves them back at you*
They migrated to me. I have to log back in every time I do something. If I want to post a reply, go to user CP, or look at the second or third page.
I switched over to Firefox and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that move will fix the problem. But just_annie, I did PM you about them.
and I have replied.

Firefox does the same thing to me occasionally, I still haven't figured out what it is, but I won't switch back to Internet Explorer. And it seems to be working fine now.

Thorne's difficulty with having to change passwords is a recurrent problem that should not exist. I have mentioned this very same issue to a number of concerned yet, it continues to plague.
Thankfully, the login/password issues seem to have been resolved, at least for the time being for not just Thorne, but other users, as well.

Again it happened! An untold number of auto emails finally arrived after many, many attempts to log-in failed. Not once, but too many times has this same issue occurred. "Locked Out" seems to be the favorite expression of the robots at work. In fact, one of their so-called automated messages to me to reset my "forgotten"-NOT password even included a new password that failed, as well, leading once again to the "Locked Out" label! Per just_annie's suggestion to Thorne on this very same difficulty, i.e., to clear cookies, that also did not work. Who knows why a certain password finally did work???
Really!

FYI for Alll,
The password issue was and still is completely resolved approx. 6 weeks ago.
The Forum program was reset NOT to ask for a new password at any time.
IF you are stillhaving issues, please send me a PM or E-mail with specific details as to what is happening.
As alot have said clearing cookies, internet files, etc, does indeed help,, BUT keep in mind once you do that you MUST re-log in even if you checked the "remember me' box before.
In addition the new server is operating great, its capacity should hold us for quite awhile.
Issues of "getting kicked" is now 95% NOT the server. The server does "recycle" periodically and "weak" connections do drop, And "periodicially" is a rare occurance.
Thanks everyone for your patience and contributitions,
