I apologize if this is something that's "old", but profiles here seem.. woefully.. inadequate -- are there plans to expand not only what sort of info can be input, but also how to search them?

Yes, I'm new here.. so perhaps I've just not stumbled across what I'm looking for, but it seems like I should be able to search by location at least.

well we are a friendly group ---but that does not mean we want to be contacted by someone we do not know----why not do like most of us do ---be active on the board ---get to know people ---then if they wish to be contacted by you that is fine ---see this is not a dating service -- and anyone looking usually posts in the personal forum---with their location if they wish to give that information away

so I doubt a searh by profile will be in the works anytime soon

To me this is more of a place to come & chew the fat, than to pick up girls. I sure don't want to put my own home town in my profile & can see why many others wouldn't.

If I like the looks of someone I just say hi- I'd be pretty suss about saying where I live first up, I'd like to find out if the person is OK first. That way if we want to blow each other off, it's OK.....

I actually started chatting with a woman only a few hours from me, thinking that 'she's close' sort of thing. Turned to to be somewhat boring & self-centred- now I wish I hadn't been so quick to say where I lived....

I've sure met some nice people here though, I must say- some of the nicest ever, by just joining in & putting myself out there as honestly as possible. (poor fools, if only they knew how evil I really am)

I fucked up because I did list my home town. Maybe I should remove it. On the other hand, it did let me meet someone very nice and very near to my home town. And Tojo, I agree with you, I too have met some very nice people and some are half a world away.

I agree that adding too much personal information on your profile can be dangerous; however, it would be nice if people included whether they are female/male, Dominant/submissive. You can't always tell from the screen name and folks don't always list this info in their profile. Especially in the chat room profile.

Personally I almost never give out correct information on online forms. If there is a reason that someone needs to know I will tell them privately. Our personal information is a valuable commodity. Advertisers want to know so they can tailor adds to you. For eg the banners on top will always say the people are from your local ip. Hotmail will always have its ads targeted for where you say you are.

I also want to be the one who decides my comfort level as to how much is known about where I am. As someone who is currently dealing with a harassment/ stalker situation, I don't want or need someone to know where my home town is unless I want them too.

Kraven I think the best thing for you is to post a personal and if you are comfortable with including your general area where you live, do so. That way you can ask people to contact you who are close to you.

I don't think adding too much information on your profile can be dangerous. I'd be leary to talk with someone that had less or nothing in their profile. At least by adding your hometown etc you're opening up communication with possibly other members near you.Also adding your hobbies and so fourth will help the interest factor of other members.

In any forum I join, first thing I do is fill my profile with as much info as I can.and on a side note, This forum seems incredible, I'm so glad to be a part of it.

the present profile --allows your location but it is an option ---not a requirment so you have a choice ---many people come he for information only and are not looking for companionship or chat partners ----you can put in as much infor as you want in your bio or intrests section ---but again that is your option not a requirement---
