I look after a large forum and this is one of our bug bears too- the number of people who write in txtspk is quite amazing and they do seem to get really quite hacked off when we ask them to write in proper English, with punctuation, capital letters, paragraphs and real words.

One of our reasons for asking this is because people don't like reading txtspk and posts are much easier to follow if there is grammar and presentation is done with care, but it also makes the site much more accessible to anyone with a sight disability too.

Screen readers don't work with txtspk or things written in abbreviations or acronyms, which means that all of our users with visual issues are unable to read sections of the forum which don't have proper English. Under the Disability Discrimination Act (over here in England anyway) we are obliged to make changes which allow the broadest access possible and we consider this to be as important as the content of the threads.
