Forgotten
Alone and invisible he sits
Yesterday’s news in flesh & bone
Gnarled hands never feeling
Eyes like windows to an empty room
All seeing
Never knowing
Ever watching
Tasting of loneliness
His face cracked and worn
History in leather clear to see
Flavoured by time
Used and spent is he
Superseded by youth cherished no more
Discarded by life
Newer models in store
Dreams are no more
Only memories are there
Tasting of sadness as recalled
Recollections are all
No reason for being
All hope gone
Cherished no more
Imperceptible to many
A tear does brew
Like oil in water its form complete
Clawed by gravity its descent assured
Hunger abated thirsty no more
Silent he sits, his time yet to come,
Usefulness questioned
Edged ever nearer to the door
