    Overhead point

    Hey everyone
I am new to the boards here. Have a question for everyone what do u do
For a overhead tie point. You see all these fancy things online, but you don't see
Much that is pratical. I would like something that is fairly strong but not supention strong
And very concealable so I am not trying to act like that's where I hang my flowers

If you don't want it "suspension strong", what are you going to use it for? The temptation will be to use it for that at some time. A screw eye is NOT sufficient for suspension. Plus it will leave a hole...as will anything else. I'll be happy to chat with you or e-mail with you to come up with a suspension design (I'm a general contractor and have done this.) The easiest way to disguise it is with a bogus smoke detector housing. It goes over the attachment point and hides it.

Sorry should of given a reason why, frankly right now I don't trust myself to do supenstion. But I want something that will take partial body weight for things like pulling limbs up and standing hogties. Any suggestions would be apricated

I still suggest a through-bolt with a large washer and double (locked) nuts above.

Even with your sub on his or her feet, they can wilt or collapse, both out of desire or out of need, and the last thing you want is something to pull out of the ceiling... perhaps even bringing down debris with it.

And once you have any sort of suspension point, you will use it more and more often. Guaranteed.

Might as well do it right the first time.

Quite right. That through bolt needs to go either between a ceiling joist and another 2X bolted to the first as a "sister" lap...or through a pair of 2X8's crossing two joists or trusses--which is better still. A bolt can be run through from the top of the lap and a coupling locktighted to the bottom of the bolt so that only a small hole remains after the threaded eye is removed. Either the fake smoke detector or a small painted plastic cap can be used to disguise the hole. Any tugging, unexpected drop or a person suddenly pulling themselves up onto the suspension point will generate a remarkable amount of load for a short interval...exactly the type of load that a screw eye does not like. Dynamic loads are impressive and destructive. Better to be safe. This type of point has held up a swing with my wife or me in it while moving...thrashing, etc. Solid as the roof. And that is what you want.

We're lucky to have a rafter in the ceiling of our bedroom. Sorry this won't help everyone, unless you want to add sturdy decorative rafters, with space on top for rope to loop over.

hey every sorry for the late response but that is exactly the answer that i was looking for. I have a couple of extra bedroom now i just have to look at the celling and attic and figure out what is the best fit. One has a bed so that might be better but the other os more open so that might have more room to come up with stuff....too many choices.

This is how the fixing for my boxing sack looks. I've been known to hang from this. It's in the basement with a lot of space around. The only drawback is that it's not really high. The ceiling is some sort of superstrong concrete that took ages and a very good drill to drill holes. Above is our tiled kitchen, so through-bolts weren't an option. I think my Master used four 8mm wall plugs and matching screws.

It holds the two of us, i.e. roughly 140 kg.
Nah, actually we tested it again when I was pregnant, so it was closer to 150.
