I want to buy a real whip, not a play whip, not a bullwhip, not one that is soft and tender. I want the kind of whip you would use for punishment on a sailing ship, one to terrorize your slaves, one to torture your enemies. I want the whip of my bad dreams. It should be a many-tailed flogger, made of leather and knotted.

You can find whips in a variety of places. Ebay, for instance. Various online adult fetish retailers are also good places to look.

For the best results, though, turn off your computer and visit your local adult fetish and toy store. They usually carry a good selection of items and if they don't have something that you are looking for in stock, they will usually order it for you.

The whips found at the outlets mentioned by Tour-Guide have all been created for BDSM play. I am very familiar with them and probably have had a sample of most styles used on me at one time or another.

I am looking for a many tailed knotted leather or corded whip that is in the five to eight foot length range.

Dig out your yellow pages and look up a listing for your local leatherworker. Most of them will hand-make an item for you for a price. So will a lot of BDSM toy product designers and producers.

I mentioned to you before about looking on enay for your item. You should take good notice of all the resources available to you there. When you find someone with leather good for sale, look and see if they have an ebay store or a webpage listed. Typically, you can email the owners of these sites and tell them what you desire and they will tell you if they can make it for you and for how much.

I had rejected our good local D&S leather supplier, as they do not do much whip work. In Dallas I have used and would recommend “Leather by Boots” for custom work. “Shades of Gray” does small work like adding D-rings and changing the length of straps.

I do agree that my best bet is finding a quality producer of whips and seeing about a custom order. I would appreciate any recommendations for this kind of craftsperson.

One of the big problems with "floggers" is that they are designed to make a lot of noise while inflicting minimal pain. The problem with long single-tailed whips is that unless the wielder is very skillful it is far too easy to inflict severe damage.

A usefull and extremely inexpensive alternative is the the "wire" whip. This is actually constructed out of "lamp cord" or "extension cord" available at virtually any large grocery or hardware store. This is dual conductor, multistranded copper wire, usually 16 to 18 awg (American Wire Gauge) covered in highly flexible plastic.

I would reccommend taking a six foot length and clipping off the two-pronged plug from the one end (and if it is an extension cord, the socket from the other end). Holding the cord in the middle, take a one foot loop and make an overhand knot in the bight. This will yield a handle and two ~30" tails. starting at the ends, split the two wires apart. You now have a four tailed whip.

You will find that with minimal practice you can raise marvelous wheals with minimal bruising. As with any thin implement of chastisement, care should be taken to avoid excess force which can result in cuts to the skin. However, experience has shown that this extension cord whip cuts less than switches of similar diameter.

Thanks for the response on whips. I think I need to further explain my requirements.

A whip fulfills two roles in my D&S play. Its lesser role is to be used on a submissive. This can be to give pain or to establish control. The choice of location and the strength of the blow demonstrate control.

In my fantasies the major role of the whip is symbolic. The person with the whip has an immediate aurora of power. The size and characteristics of the whip add to that power. If I describe a leather clad women with a crop one image appears, and with a six inch cock whip on her key chain a second appears. These two say I play at D&S. For me a women with a bull whip is one who rides a horse as that is where that kind of whip designed to be used.

I am looking for the kind of whip that says, “I drive human slaves.” I want the maximum of symbolic power.

The idea of the electrical cord is effective as a pain giver but lacks symbolic power. Seeing it in someone’s hands might make me think of moving the TV to the porch.

The whip I seek is of such force and power to harm that I would expect to use it only is very special circumstances similar to giving or getting a brand.
