    Build or buy

I was just curious as to if any of you built your own bondage furniture toys etc or just bought them. If you build them why? If you buy them why? I'm getting ready to move into a new place in about 2 months with a basement me and the wife have decided will be my work shop/ play area. I've always wanted to build the bondage furniture you see on websites and sell it cheaper then them. The only thing that is really stopping me is no room for a workshop right now and kinda the money situation. The money situation is getting better everyday so soon everything will fall into place. Another thing that is kinda holding me back is lack of advertisement. I know theres tons of sites you can build you own free website but getting the search engines to find them seems to be a pain in the ass. If anyone has ever run there own buisness out of there home fill me in on the horrors and joys.

my Master has built some suction type devises as well as made his own leather collars. He made his own stock as well. It is well built and less expensive then the ones you can buy in the stores. Building sometimes saves on money or gives Him something to do. Buying sometimes you aren't pleased with what you get. It all depends I guess

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if it would be worth my time to build a free webstie and offer my services of building bondage furniture for people who just don't have the time, tools or know how. I know for me it is pretty simple to look at a picture of something and figure out what material I need to buy to build it. I know when we move into our new home I have a list of things my sub wife wants me to build for her pleasure and pain.

One problem, especially with furniture, may be how do you get it to the customer? A website in theory opens you up to custom from all over the world however I very much doubt the 'logisitical arm' of your company will be able to deliver to everywhere. So you may find that you only sell to those living locally whichis a much smaller market.

One way to sell bondage gear is to attend fairs and events and munches and so on and see if you can get a stall there. You can sell some 'off the peg' stuff on the stall and arrange with customers to deliver stuff ordered on the website and take orders for new stuff from people who pass by. Maybe you could agree to go into business with another trader? They let you sell your furniture on the stall for a small consideration (cos you have to pay to have a stall usually). You'd probably need a van to carry some stock to these places, however. I'd also have photos of your furniture to display on the stall (either as posters or simply as a 'photo album' for people to browse through).

I am basing all the above on what I have seen of re-enactment furniture makers and how they operate. The trouble with furniture is that it is expensive for a one off buy so you as the maker make a lot per sale but don't get so many sales as, say, the person selling bondage outfits for teddie bears at a fiver each.

One area you may find useful to look into is custom made furniture. They tell you a design, you tell them if it is possible and the cost. You can customise bondage furniture in so many ways - design, function, colour etc.

I tend to try and build my own equipment and look for alternatives to devices and toys you see at online shops for two reasons. First, I enjoy the creative process of building something myself. Second, it usually is MUCH less expensive to DIY than to buy.

For me, custom furniture would be appealing if I couldn't, for some reason, build it myself or if it was sufficiently less expensive to make it worthwhile.

I once toyed with the same idea after building a couple simple pieces of my own. But, I really don't think I could make enough $ of it considering the amount of time invested in it unless I priced it accordingly, and then I'm afraid that would deter anyone from being interested.
