asphyxiation

What thread? Hate to give the wrong definition.... normally means something along the lines of something enlarging... such as the pupil of an eye or the cervix during child birth.

flogging

The victim is in a sitting position.

With stocks, boards are placed around the legs or the wrists, whereas in the pillory they are placed around the arms and neck and fixed to a pole, and the victim stands. However, the terms can be confused, and many people refer to the pillory as the stocks.

By the way people were chained to the pillory, and put in the stocks (most often outside the parish church) right up till the mid-19th century in many countries in Europe. It's not mainly a medieval thing.

Wrist shackles are not the same as handcuffs, which are used by law enforcement agents, but ankle shackles are also known as fetters. The manacles can be fastened with padlocks, screws or rivets. If they are riveted, she means business. I have a pair of wrist manacles and a pair of fetters. They are fastened with a screw.
