How much is too much graphic sex?

Reading through some of the stories on this site I find myself yawning at the amount of graphic sex, as some stallion is eagerly but rather passively pumping away at his mare. Some times I perk up amused as I think Hey! This bloke has got three cocks! Or sigh, I pity this poor woman, she really is going to end up with back ache or when her breasts are pummeled or her nipples extended like pieces of elastic, I think, ouch! Still, she instanteously combusts at the feel of an angry oversized penis. Not only are the male writers guilty of this. I wonder how many female writers have dripped juices so easily down the inside of their thighs at thought they are going to be taken rough shod when actually confronted with a malicious erection? Most of the time there is no reasoning for these reactions in the characters. I think you all know what I mean.

So how much graphic sex is too much? For me it is when the graphic sex is not driving the plot or adding to the psychology of the story. Why is the woman so aroused? What are the reasons for him treating the object of his desire in such a sadistic way? Coming three times in a short space of time is not impossible for a male who is particularly aroused (brag brag) but what is arousing him? A man can have an almost instantaneous erection at the sight of a particular woman but in my experience not just any woman. I know what the physical act of sex is, I've experienced it enough (brag brag again). However, I do not know what someone else is feeling or their motivations for indulging in a sexual act. I want to know what the feeling is the woman is experiencing and why it arouses her so much or why her arousal is frightening her so much or even why him coming at her with an angry penis yet again is such a turn off. Why does he find the object of his desire so arousing or is it not her but some other psychological motive he is using her for.

So I ask again. How much graphic sex is too much? My answer is, it depends on the quality of the writing. Most of the best graphic sex I have read is happening in the minds of the characters.

    Opinions?

I do not have a problem with graphic sex. I think the question should be how much detail is too much or too little.

I have read some storys were the story was literaly " I was doing this then jill was doing that the sam was doing this etc etc etc. It is a very hard read and not very enjoyable. Then there is the opisit extreem were the detail is so high that you find your self thinking to your self Get on with it already.

That is why I dont realy like historyical storys. There is just too much detail and it bogs down the story.

A good story should have plot motive and climax (no not that climax)

another thing that I dont realy like is the whole flash back flash forward thing seperated by the ****

Ouch! It really hurts when such an esteemed critic of 'historyical storys' tells me to shove my beloved flashbacks up my asterisk. :-)

    *********

Oops, sorry. I forgot. Anyway, some of us inkstained drudges will probably continue to wallow in the muck at the 'oposit extreem' from your lofty literary standards.

By the way -- As a fan of historyical fiction, did you ever happen to see "Citizen Kane"? Or, if that film failed to meet your cinematic approval, "Titanic"? (not that the latter was well-written, but there was nothing particularly wrong with its structure). I know, I know. All that business about the iceberg was pretty boring, but Kate Winslett was pretty hot posing for her Leonardo, eh?

sorry to have offended. But while I liked citisen Cane. I did not like titanic. I have a rule about movies and people drowning. I will not watch those movies. I have a simular rule about animal abuse. I have yet to see old yeller becouse of it. Oh and I did not like bambie either.

No I am not an esteemed critic nor do I tell writers how to right. But I know what I like in an erotic story. If I want to read War and peace then I will read it. I just can get into having historical figures in my erotica.

Oh Goerge Washington cut down my big tree oh oh oh. Sorry he is just not very exciting. I respect those that like it. Keep writing it. I will read what I like and pass on the rest.

Not even if it was a 'cherry' tree?

Actually, someone could probably write a good erotic story about two of our pounding fathers --- Franklin and Jefferson. Even as an old man, Franklin was supposedly very frisky with some of the courtesans in Paris when he served as ambassador there. Jefferson, of course, carried on a long relationship with a pretty slave named Sally Hemming, with whom he is believed to have fathered children.

Can't you just see Jefferson seated in his swivel-chair (he invented it, you know), swiveling like crazy while Sally bounced ecstatically on that part of him that 'was endowed by their Creator' as the two of them pleasurably engaged in 'the pursuit of happiness'?

...and can you put some sort of reference to the Jeffersons (George and Weezie) in the epilogue?

Sorry does nothing for me. But it may for others. That is ok.

What I meant by the knock that off. Was in a normal our time story. A story that has plot A motive B and climax C. They offen mix it up so that It is dificoult to follow.

It may be just me but when I want an erotic story I am not looking for weathering hights "heethcliff" She calls as she is running through the marsh's

I know It is just me but what I like in a story is he/she did this to she/he and she/he reactided by x.

I realy good auther that I like is Aurgus and powerone. They write erotica and dont have to resort to such scull dugory.

    Wham bam thank you mam.

Favorite story of mine that aurgus wrote is slave daughter. Cant post it here due to the coc copywrite limitations

Look I respect your skill as an auther. I know I dont hold a candle to your great skill. I just like my storys simpler that is all.

just as to little detail will ruin a great story so will too much. That is all I meant to say.

Good points all and a great question to ponder.

For me, it's too much when the graphic sex becomes boring, because it does nothing to either further the story or titillate the reader.

If its not furthering the story and I'm not getting off on it, then its wasted space.

I don't want the author to only tell me what's going on, I want them to show me and let me experience the characters feelings. Aurelius, Jeangle, Boccaccio and Powerone do a great job of this.

Me? I'm at one with my duality. I switch, therefore I am.

You're going to have to give me an example here, or clarify this, because this seems odd to me.

There are, basically, two kinds of stories on this site. Stories that contain sex, and stories that are totally sex. Both are popular. So long as they're well written, I don't have problem with either.

I think too, there's a subtle difference between 'sexual' and 'sex'. It's easier to give examples. The way I see it, this is 'sexual', from Dr Mabeuse's Callista's Ordeal 1 , "I knew that blouse. I'd seen her in it before, on our one date. It was tight, too tight around her luscious breasts,.." And later in the same story, this is 'sex', "Her ass came off the mattress and she shoved her pussy up where I hit her hard now, spanking that hot pussy, and her hips started to quiver, all her muscles going tight. .." Stories that 'contain sex' are, to me, generally much like the act of sex itself-- nice slow teasy build ups with good heated climaxes. (Lip smackingly good, Doc)

That, however, I believe isn't the only style that consitutes a good and well written piece of erotica. Susan, this recent offering by Ededas, I tell you, it's sex, sex, and more sex! All in fullblown erotic detail. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is left to the reader's imagination. I enjoyed this one, and with a perfect score of tens and almost 10,000 readers in a week, I guess I'm not the only one.

I think the only rule about writing erotic is that it needs to be
    easy to read and erotic.

Now, take a look at this piece, Making Peace It's has no plot/story as such. The perspective is totally his(the author's). There's not a single word of dialog. There's not a single 'I thought,...' yet you know exactly what 'he' is feeling. And the sex is very graphic. Yet, it's a beautifully sensual piece of writing.

The bottom line is, if there's one rule about fictional writing, it's that there is no rules. There are guidelines and aims, various opinions and tastes, but no rules.

I believe good writing depends mainly on the author's skill to suspend the reader's sense of reality. I really don't believe there's any measure of what's too much, or not enough, graphic sex in an erotic story.

OK You are winning the argument. The other day I read a short vigenette of 2,000 words or so that was of nothing but a short sexual scene that was pure poetry. It was so remarkable and enchanting, I cursed the author that it had an end.

Can my ego take it? I'm going to have to withdraw (pun or not to pun?) and consider my position.

The smooth rotunds of her arse, separated by its neat cleft, appeared to mock me. 'Take me if you dare!'
