    Average Penis size

I was wondering, how do straight guys know if their penis is the average size? After watching a porn flick with my girlfriend, the porn actors having 14" dicks really crushed my self confidence. I was wondering if there is a way to increase a penis's size with some sort of machine/sleeve (I know there are pumps, but as soon as your dick comes out it doesent look so big anymore).

Are there ways to tell if your dick is a normal size, because when im soft i have to say im veryyyy short.

    Sincerely, yet troubled
    -Alex

Question A limp cock is short

Most men (like 98%) are about the same length, whether they look short or longer when flacid. Most men's cocks are about 4.5-6 inches in length.

When considering porn stars, remember that , just like breast augmentation, there are penile implants, too. Not to mentions surgeries to enhance the length. Very few people have more than an 8 inch cock naturally and I have never even seen a statistic for a natural 14 inch cock.

But if you work for a $14 Billion a year industry, I'm sure your bosses would make sure you were up to standards, too.

I know that this is the oft-quoted statistic, but I must admit that I have never seen a 4.5 inch penis in my life, and that 8 inches is not that unusual...

Just my thoughts on the matter, I am sure many will disagree.

    Uh-huh... 8" eh?

    I wonder if that is 8" by a man's standard or 8" by a woman's?

I can guarantee they are NOT that common.

    Re: hear-ye, hear-ye

Ya know? I know it probably shouldn't matter to me, but something about this posts kind of irritates me. I'm not terribly sure about what it is, but it just seems like a shallow, self-involved view of the male anatomy to me.

I don't measure my penis. I don't care how long it is. I don't even care if I am average, above average or below average. The simple fact of the matter is: Most men that KNOW how to satisfy their women can do so perfectly well without even using their penises.

I don't subscribe to bigger is better. I don't subscribe to the theory of penis-envy. I think way too much importance is placed on the penis in the first place, just like WAY too much attention is placed on women's breasts. Bigger is not necessarily better in both cases. Let's face facts, the penis is just a blood-filled cylinder of muscle and breasts are just lumps of fat. What's so important about them?

However, a good mental fucking can be truly exciting and can set a great mood. In fact, as far as sex goes, I would place a hell of a lot more merit on imagination, speech and the mouth. Because, to me, the mouth can be FAR more satisfying to a woman sexually.

Tourguide, I did not place *any* value judgements on the measurements quoted in my previous posts, it was merely facts based on personal experience. Obviously, having only seen a limited number of cocks, this sample may be skewed. I will have to increase the sample size to decrease the error!

I'm sure woman and men use the same system of measurements: if anything, surely men are more likely to exaggerate?

Perhaps you might be a little insecure about this? :P

Yes, exactly. What a man tells you is eight inches is more likely to be four.

No. Trust me. I could care less about dicks.

I agree. Same as a nice looking pussy is better. And yes, there are some not-so-nice looking ones out there.

    georgey,

more i think about it - clear it gets - must be American thing, the average size i mean, most of my sample (well almost all of it -current one) originates in Europe. or maybe it is the inch vs. centimeter stuff *rubs her head*

Yes, the centimeter-inch stuff is disturbing! Multiplying cm with 2,34...I guess.
Perhaps one could explain it with comparing a penis to an average sized banana. But, fuck, how big is an average sized banana?

    Penile Enlargement: Fact or Phallacy?

Are there medically sound ways to increase penis size?

By Steven N. Gange, MD, FACS
    WebMD Answers to Questions Archive
I?ve seen ads for penis enlargement aids, such as vacuum devices and pills, and am wondering if there is any validity to these claims? If not, what options are there for someone with a small penis?

Come-ons like these rarely offer scientific proof, yet many men spend money on such products hoping for penile enlargement. They are falling prey to two misconceptions: 1) They have a smaller than average penis; 2) non-surgical penile enlargement is safe and effective.
    Misconception #1: The Small Penis
Men in general have a distorted view of what?s normal for penile size. The fact is, "average" was not defined until recently. A study published in the September 1996 Journal of Urology concluded that average flaccid penile length was 8.8 cm (3 1/2 inches), and average erect length was 12.8 cm (5 inches). Also, according to many women?s magazine surveys, "size doesn?t matter." But many men remain fixated on the ideal of the 8- to 10-inch penis.
Some men don?t even realize what they have. For example, obese men develop a suprapubic fat pad that conceals the penis, making it look shorter. Pressing firmly on this fatty tissue reveals the true penile length. I often explain this to patients, but a man who is convinced his penis is too small is hard to convince otherwise.

Occasionally a perception of inadequate penile length is a manifestation of underlying feelings of inadequacy in general. In these instances, psychological counseling may prove helpful.

Misconception #2: You Can Increase Penile Size Without Surgery
There are no proven non-surgical methods of penile enlargement. Vacuum devices simply cause engorgement by drawing blood into the penis. (While these devices are very useful tools in the management of erectile dysfunction (ED), they do not progressively enlarge the penis.) No natural pill has any ability whatsoever to enhance penile size. Even Viagra does nothing to permanently affect penile size. Topical testosterone cream used in childhood can increase penile size by accelerating the effects of puberty, but there is no proof that testosterone cream applied to the adult penis enhances penile size.
    When Surgery Is Warranted
Certain men suffering from urologic conditions may need plastic surgery on the penis: those with traumatic defects; those whose penises have retracted following a spinal cord injury; those born with a condition called epispadius (a severe penile deformity with associated shortening); and some men with Peyronie?s Disease (scarring of the penile shaft resulting in severe angulation and occasionally shortening). For these men, surgical procedures are available to give the penis additional length and a more normal appearance. However, these procedures, even in the best of hands, often result in wound infection or other healing complications. Sexual function may be impaired, and an artificial penile prosthesis may need to be inserted at the time of such surgery.
Enlargement Surgery: Still Experimental and Risky
Within the past 10 years, some surgeons have attempted purely cosmetic penile enlargement surgery on healthy men to enhance both length and girth of the penis. This surgery usually involves cutting the band of tissue that holds the penis up against the pubic bone (the suspensory ligament), and then injecting fat, harvested by liposuction, beneath the penile skin to add bulk. The surgery is still experimental: Two recent studies (one in 1994, the other in 1996) published in the Journal of Urology reported significant complications resulting from this surgery -- serious wound infections and penile deformity, such as lumpiness and asymmetry. In fact, the surgery is still so controversial and yields such poor results that it is considered generally unacceptable by both the plastic surgery and urological communities.
In addition, such procedures are expensive, costing up to $10,000 in some instances. Penile enlargement is not a simple undertaking and is usually not medically necessary. If you choose to pursue surgical enlargement, be sure to check the credentials of your surgeon (e.g., board certification) and carefully weigh the risks and potential benefits.

    Going the opposite direction...

i had a best friend (female) in college who had me set her up with this guy in one of my classes who she thought was hot. A week or so later she came and asked me for advice on how to break up with him. i asked her what was up, had he hurt her or something. She finally confessed that the guy had the smallest penis she'd ever seen, she swore it was only 2 inches long when hard - she said she couldn't even feel it inside her when they slept together. She wanted to break up with him, but also not hurt his feelings because he was such a nice guy. i let her make a confession to the guy that her and i were both in love and had been keeping our love secret for so long not wanting to break up our friendship. It worked, but i did feel sorry for the guy because i'm sure he knew the lie and most likely had gone through this many times. i don't know how much surgery could do for him because from everything i've read, at the most only between 1 to 2 inches can be gained from such an operation. But i guess 3 or 4 inches is better than 2.

Exclamation And she can't take over 4-6 in

And that is why if the guy is bigger than 4-6in a woman can't take all of him. So size doesn't always mater. Those oversized guys can't do any better than a average size, and than he can't do as well. Like my Dad always told me it isn't the size of the hook but how you wiggal the worm.

that's probably true for some, maybe most women, but I have 7-8 inches (depending on however you measure it) and it all fits in there..

the real measure is the radius or circumference of the penis.

    Whoa!

Y'know, my hubbyasked me if i thought he was big. I was puzzled why he would want me to measure his cock. It came out at seven inches.
I still don't understand what it is about the size. From what I just read in the article above, there's no really safe way to enlarge the penis, so why bother? For that matter, there's no really safe way to enlarge the breasts either; waht about all those implants leaking and causing problems and stuff?
You are who you are. Accept yourself the way you are, and you'll be a happier person for it. And if your partner is the one complaining about your size, you need to find another partner. Someone who really cares about you, enough to share initmate activities with you, won't care that your cock is smaller than Joe Schlong on the TV screen.
Two words for you to remember: digital enhancement. That cock on the screen may look 14 inches long, but it could also be an extension, or it could be digitally enhanced to look longer. Did you know, some of those girls in the 'Barely Legal' type flicks actually might be way more than eighteen? Some of them are in their twenties and thirties. The producers of the videos use the same software that was developed to age up missing children so you know what they look like now, only they use it to age down the girls in those pornos. They even de-age some twenty year olds to look ten to sell kiddie porn. And it's perfectly legal.
Accept who you are. Don't try to change. While there are lots of cosmetic surgeries out there to change the way you look outside, remember, inside, you're still going to be the same person. Be happy with the person inside that skin. If your partner isn't happy with you, find another partner.

I completely agree with Tourguide that this whole topic is completely pointless and does not really need to be discussed. I just wanted to put an end to this average size argument. I am not going to join in on the what women prefer or what can fit in women side of this argument.

On another not whoever started this thread should have just done some research. it took me a whole 15 seconds to find this info on a search engine

Hmmm, what a novel approach to posting...criticising a thread and then bringing it back to life by contributing to it! LOL!

i think that link was probably the sort of information the thread starter was looking for though..although a word of caution, upon doing the same 15 second search, i found the following reaearch, carried out by Durex, which gives a different answer to the age old question! (not to mention the hundreds of other surveys, all presenting slightly different findings).

    In Pursuit of Extra Inches

    When Size Matters

    By Martin Downs F.
WebMD Feature Reviewed By Gary Vogin, MD

The offers certainly are enticing: "Add 2 or more inches to your penis in just weeks!" one product's web site promises. "Doctor-approved pill will enlarge your penis up to 3 inches," another claims. But are they for real? No.

Surgery is the only legitimate way to permanently enlarge your penis, and the best possible results are much less dramatic than you might hope for. Claims of massive gains by other methods -- such as pills, pumps, and exercises -- are either overenthusiastic or blatantly fraudulent.

There are three operations that plastic surgeons perform on men who want a bigger penis. Only one can make it look longer.

Part of the penis is held inside the body by the suspensory ligament, which attaches the penis to the pubic bone. A surgeon can cut this ligament so that the penis slides down and more of it is visible outside the body. You may gain up to 1 inch in length by having this surgery.

To widen the penis, a surgeon can harvest fat from elsewhere on your body and inject it into the shaft of the penis. A newer way to add girth is called dermal grafting. In this procedure, a surgeon buys skin from a tissue bank and grafts it underneath the skin of the penis shaft.

    Not for Everyone

A statement from the American Urological Society (AUA) on surgical widening and lengthening says there is no proof to show that the procedures are safe or that they work.

Ira Sharlip, a California urologist and president of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, says there just isn't enough data from credible studies for the society to endorse these procedures. But that doesn't mean all doctors dislike the idea. "I would love to see that data," Sharlip says.

Mark Solomon, MD, a cosmetic surgeon in Pennsylvania, insists that surgery is only for men who are really serious about it. "I'm not out on the Internet sucking up hundreds of patients for penis enlargement," Solomon says. "I'm careful about who I operate on."

He says he won't take any patient who has unrealistic expectations, like dreams of turning an average 6-inch penis into one that's 9 or more inches long. He won't operate on uncircumcised men, either, because the risk for complications is greater. "I turn down most patients," he says.

What's more, many men reconsider after hearing all the details.

    What Price Size?

After the ligament-cutting procedure, a man must wear weights on his penis to keep scar tissue from forming that would make it shorter again. Solomon compares the discomfort of recovery from this surgery to that of a hernia operation.

Besides leaving you tender and unable to have sex for at least one month, there is another down side, literally, to the lengthening operation. The tension of the suspensory ligament is what makes the penis point upward when erect. A penis lengthened by cutting the ligament points downward when erect, and it may wobble during sex.

Fat injections for thickening the penis caused problems for men who had it done early on. The fat tended to move around under the skin, making the penis look lumpy. But Tom Lue, MD, a professor of urology at the University of California San Francisco, says the procedure has been refined in recent years and the results men get today are "much better than five to 10 years ago."

Lue points out that fat injections and dermal grafting widen only the shaft of the penis, not the head. Some may think a surgically widened penis looks strange because the shaft is wider than the head.

    GUARANTEED!!!* (*Not)

If you look at enough Web sites that sell enlargement products and techniques, you'll notice that they all try to debunk each other's methods to shore up their own claims. Taken all together, the whole enterprise discredits itself.

Here's one claim about "natural" penis enlargement, or so-called "ancient secret" techniques, which involve torturing your penis by hand:

"The key to size growth is breaking down the cells in the penis by forcing blood into them and stretching them out. The penis 'repairs' itself by regrowing the cells, expanding the erectile tissue and allowing the penis to hold more blood. End result: the penis becomes longer and thicker."

Sharlip puts his medical opinion about this in layman's terms: "That's bull----," he says.

Lue says you can hurt yourself this way. If you rupture the fibers of the penis wall, you can get Peyronie's disease -- a bent penis.

The penis pump is another method that's not "ancient" but that has been around for decades. Pumps create a vacuum around the penis, which engorges it with blood. This can help men who have erectile dysfunction achieve an erection. Lue says if you use a pump regularly for a long time, your penis may get fatter. But if you stop using it, the swelling will disappear.

There are also many hucksters who claim that taking herbal pills will enlarge your penis permanently. Does this work? "There's no reason to expect that it would," Sharlip says.

Lue's final advice is, "Don't mess around with the penis." He says men often come to him in tears over what they've done to themselves. And Sharlip doesn't offer much sympathy to the size-obsessed man. "If a man's self-esteem is largely dependant on the size of his penis, he has more of a problem between his ears than between his legs," he says.

I remember that some guys started an 8-inch penis club. Turns out they were measuring from the bottom. It really should have been named the "Average 5.5-6 inch club"

It should be OK to measure from the bottom- if he can get the full length of the underside inside me, then it counts.

I prefer good solid girth to length. And like Tourguide eloquently stated, the mind and the mouth are *MUCH* more important. The part involving penile insertion is the smaller portion of sex, for me.

I have somewhere a survey on females thoughts about sex.
    SexKitten replied this:
    Does penis size matter?:
penis size does not matter...it's the motion of the ocean, not the size of the wave...
Which matters to you most Size or Sexual Technique?: sexual technique most definitely. I do not want a man with a huge penis, but doesn't know how to use it!

    Much Ado About Dicks

    Penis size sure is a popular subject. It all boils down to two things though;

    1) Just like some men prefer a woman to have breasts that are large or small, round or pear shaped, soft or firm, etc. Most women have a similar opinion of the penis. They have a certain "type" that they prefer over others. In the end, however, just as breast size or shape isn't a very good indicator of how good a woman is in bed so too penis size or shape isn't a very good indicator of how good a man is in bed.

    2) The penis is a reproductive tool, the size of which is controlled by heredity. If your parents had children it means the penis which planted that sperm in the egg was of sufficient size to do it's job meaning your penis is Ooo-kay. If your parents didn't have any children... then you were adopted and don't have to worry about it because somewhere out there was a penis that had your name on it and it was obviously big enough to get the job done.

Ok, here is my chance to brag... I try to do it as often as possible for I dont feel I have too much other then my size to brag about...

but, I am 8-9 inches, depending on the weather, health and level of turn on... or what ever causes it to biger somtimes then others... but I have been told I am REALLY unusually thick...

I have only had 1 or maybe 2 girlfriends that I bottomed out. And I have been told that I have given more girls there first orgasims from sex in their lives then I care to count.

I have given up with giving vergins any pleasure at all during the instances... It really sucks, but I dont enjoy this intimate act of taking a virgin... Its way to painful for them, and the bleeding usually gets very intense...

I also didnt know that I was unusual. Not until I was showering after wrestling practice as a teen when one of the more gutsy guys said "wow he has a HUGE cock"... I wonder if hes gay now...

    Anyways...

As far as Super small cocks, I have heard quite a few accounts from women who I was going out with that pointed to guys they use to date and say "hes about the size of your pinky". I feel really bad for them, must be really hard to open up and be confortable with beign naked.

I dont know what it is, but I can say with assurance that I am porno star size... I dont want to be bigger... maybe a bit shorter... but thats it...

Also anal sex is really hard on the woman. Takes allot of time and practice for this to be enjoyable... Also women tend to be unable to use their mouths on me without hitting teath. and I have only had 1 girl EVER be able to take me in her mouth all the way.

I also dont orgasim very easily, and can stop myself from reaching orgasim without much effort at all. I use to like to torment my last subbie by fucking her for hours... She would start to cry from the pain of me. Then I would cum, and start over in 10-20 minutes... I went all day once, and she couldnt walk straight for a few days...

The only problem with all this is that I have never came from a female giving me oral or a hand job... Ive always wanted to, but something holds me back...

Well I am done showing off...

    Kostly

P.S. I got a big nose, so maybe there is a corilation between nose size and penis size.
