HMmmm. . . I think there are a lot of variable in this question. Depends on the size of the group (big, small, intimate, all people we know, etc.), the location (home, dungeon, private play space, rented public area), how involved the evening is going to be (catered, pot luck, finger foods, no refreshments) and what my role would be (am I acting as Dungeon Master, etc). To be very honest, if I am the Host of such a gathering, I very rarely expect to play or participate other than to make sure everyone else has a good, safe, sane and consensual good time.
All great points and Thank you TDS, but I had in mind a "house gathering" (which is where I'd host all get togethers), I'm rennovating a Barn to suit the many needs of the D/s. and was looking for ideas & inouts to what those expect from & of their "underlings".
Sorry, I guess I read to much into the question. Personally, at a small house gathering, I would, more than likely, have no expectations of playing, sceneing or participating. Since it is my house, I am pretty sure that I would not want to risk being distracted. In these instances I feel my greatest responsibility is to insure the safety of everyone invited. As for my submissive, her normal limits would of course be in place. She is also my other set of eyes and ears. I would expect her to serve as my hostess as well.
I would agree with both of TheDeSade's posts. Hosting is a full time job in itself. I would plan on not being able to participate in the parties events. If you end up being able to, consider it a bonus.

Ok, If i was hosting this kind of party I would have to run it just like i would run a tournament or game day. I wouldn't be playing until afterwords or things were rapping up, and depending on the numbers of people would depend on the need for others to help over see things. I know that in a gaming situation, I can run 15 or so people by my self and keep an eye on all games and goings on. Any more then that I would need help.
So, small party under 15, and it was my idea... Then i would run the party, and tell my pet to have fun and enjoy herself, but if she saw anything obvious then to come to me. Over that, then I would ask for her help in DM (LOL) the night. If we are talking more then 25.. Then its time to start recruiting my old bouncer friends.
So, small, no I wouldn't expect my pet to do anything... Unless the party was her idea.... and if it was.... then if she wanted me to run it so she could have fun... well, there would be prices to be paid....
I'm hoping to have "play" weekends often and cant see anymore than 6-8 couples for them, my pet wants to hold a few "Ladies Only Lingerie & toy parties. I'm sure I can handle those *wink*

As for the ladies only party, why cant the Doms turn up have the subs trying on toys and cloths in front of a group of Doms and subs sounds like a lot more fun for the subs and the Doms

There are a lot of factors here and when I read your post I get tons of questions going through my head because the post was pretty vague.
A host generally ensures that everyone has a good time and directs the events of the evening, arranges proper location, comfortability of the guests etc and/or takes care of food, cleanup, serving etc depending on the party. To dump all that on one person can be taxing. This is all my opinion of course.
Im curious as to /why/ youd want your sub to host and not just do it yourself. What kind of role would you be playing at the party?
Im also curious as to what kind of party it is exactly, Im thinking along the lines of play party but Im not sure, I can only assume. In which case as her dominant, Id think youd be hosting.. as for limits, are ppl allowed to play with her or is she allowed to play with them, are they only allowed to watch, is she serving only, Not sure. Might want to clarify to get advice geared toward your situation.
