Always being interested in taking as much credit for something as humanly possible, I would like to point out the (apparent) increase in posters who use 'real' pseudonyms. Not to say that they're using their real names, but they're using names that LOOK as if they could be real.
Is this a genuine trend, or only a misperception on my part? If it IS real, I would like to stake my claim as the trendsetter.
(If it isn't, someone else posted this under my pseudonym.)
I'm not entirely sure what to make of this, but...
Harold is my real pseudonym. I would also like some credit if this trend is deemed creditworthy (if not, ignore this), although I'm not sure I would have done it if I had realized at the time that I was participating in a trend.
Harold, my eyes aren't good enough to make out what's in the hand of your Avatar. It looks like you're shooting a pistol into the bottle. Take pity on a blind man, would ya? Just what's going on (and should I be aroused?)?

this one wasn't doing anything important, so I'm going to hijack my own thread!
I started out to read through all of the threads in the Forum in a systematic way (I got about halfway through), so I know that there have always been first-time posters who ventured out upon the dark waters, never to be heard from again, and others who posted twice, then sank with nary a ripple.
It seems to me that, in the month since I began posting, there has been an unusually high number of first-time posters and that several are acting as if they will become regulars.
I hope this is a true perception, because the Forum seems to me to be more energized than it has been in, lo, these long months. Checking the Forum for posting updates is now the first and last thing I do each day (okay, so I have no life), and it's keeping me more entertained than the story postings are!
Now, if only I could figure out what "Deus lo volt!" meant.
It means "God will's it" and it used to be crusaders war cry

Won't go on a tirade here having expounded on this in other forums. I'm really a very tolerant guy but believe in an eye-for-an-eye justice. Man, I'm tired--going to the bunk now--night all.

Leaving aside the fact that since the beginning of history God and his name have been hijacked more often that airplanes by all manner of hot headed zealots and for all kinds of crusades or holy wars, the accuracy of your signature line's translation is correct. A very interesting historical tidbit, BruceBoxer. As for the Islamic admonition, "God is great", I believe Allah Akubar! is a bit more precise than Allah Akbar. The name "Gary Wilcox" is a nom de plume. I specifically changed it from something lighter and funnier because I was beginning to submit writing to the BDSM Library.

Dari's not my real name, and doesn't even come close to my real name, but as people generally tend to not using my real name even if they know it (apart from a few friends) it should be as irrelevant as anything else I tend to omit :p
Hmmm. Actually, Bruce's shout of Allah Akbar ;) is perfectly acceptable, together with many other permutations. However a google search reveals that Allahu Akbar is by far the most common variant.Quote:

The same phonetic translation problem occurs with most other Arabic phrases too. Trying to put some Arabic flavour into a recent story gave me many similar dilemmas. It's a fascination language, and (apparently) not so difficult to learn as one might suppose.
Oh, and back on topic, my nom de plume derives from a nickname my friends called me. Recently I received a nice email from a real Aurelius inquiring as to whether I was a long-lost relative :). Alas the answer was no.
Like most here, Paul Thorne is NOT my real name. (So don't all you Thorne's out there come looking for a long-lost relative, like Aurelius')
I, too, have been reading the stories here for several years, and even submitted one, but only recently discovered the forums. I've been enjoying myself here for a couple weeks now, and hope to keep on.
But Pandemonium is my really real name. :D
