heh..i've got a couple big pine butt logs out back that will be converted to timbers soon...i'm tossing around the idea of building a king sized timber frame bed..all through bolted with steel plates..stronger the better i guess...we keep rattling the piece of crap we "sleep" on apart..
thoughts? ideas?

Beds are adult playgrounds... mine is old made of iron..
We have discussed getting a new bed.. for sleeping and leaving the iron bed where it is for play.. nods........
A couple of years ago we bought a solid oak bed. Instead of the side rails just dropping into brackets on the head and foot boards they are through bolted into embedded nut plates in the side rails. And instead of the cross boards on the head and foot boards just being mortised and glued in they also are through bolted. This bed is super solid and have never had a squeak or rattle yet. Oh, and the half moon shaped cutouts where the cross boards join the uprights have come in REAL handy also! *Evil Grin*
make it a canopy bed with a strong canopy. You will never find an end to the different things you can do with the extra secure attachment areas.

it'll be awhile before I get there to work on it..the wood has to dry...gives me plenty of time to work on the design...it will be a canopy bed...probably with 6"
nominal uprights.. (best thing about milling your wood yourself..you get to pick...) I'm thinking about arching the canopy timbers just a bit..maybe an inch
or inch and a quarter over seven feet...
but you can very well bet that it will have some discrete holes at various locations around the frame..might be the best thing...leave holes where we can slip eye bolts in and play without having to explain what the eyebolts are for...:rolleyes: we've got three girls and they notice EVERYTHING! :32:
Steel frame bed also can be a play ground for us..

Sirjohn99 would you mind posting some pictures of your bed as I am plannig to build a bed built similar to yours. Take a look at the drawing I posted above and see if that is smilar to the way your bed is assembled.
Zopi here is some pics for ispiration this is where I got the idea to build my own canopy bed but out of square lumber instead of round. These pics will fit your design better then mine.
