oh i;m not THAT jittery, and i know what i like and have good ideas of what i would enjoy. i'm ready, at least for some o/l fun. thanks for the encouragement. turns out i've been exploring this lots longer than i realized.

Well the absolutely best way is to go slow. You shouldn't rush it especially since you say you are a bit shy and tend to be a bit jittery. There are some things you will just know you like. Say having your ass smacked while you are fooling around. Take it from there, slowly start to explore with some wider topics that are related to that.
Without a bf or Dom to help you explore it is more difficult. Reading stories will at least help eliminate some stuff. If you read about it and don't get excited imagining it, chances are you won't like it. That being said be very careful about who you choose to play with.
